The outgoing President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has bestowed the prestigious National Honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) upon the incoming President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

News About Nigeria reports that this momentous occasion took place during the ongoing Investiture Ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.

The conferment of the GCFR honour forms an integral part of the Investiture Ceremony, which is being held to officially inaugurate the President-Elect and his Vice-President, Kashim Shettima.

President Buhari, who has expressed his eagerness to hand over the reins of power in the coming days, will formally transfer the presidency to Tinubu on Monday, May 29.

During the Investiture Ceremony, President Buhari was accompanied by notable dignitaries including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Minister of Defense, Major General Salihi Magashi; the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor; and the Service Chiefs.

These esteemed individuals were present at the Regimental Dinner organized in honor of President Buhari by the Armed Forces at the newly commissioned Nigerian Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja on Tuesday.

Buhari has been facing immense pressure as he endeavors to keep up with the multitude of events leading up to the inauguration while simultaneously fulfilling his official duties.

Prior to the Investiture Ceremony, the President inaugurated the new headquarters of the Nigerian Customs Service in the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Furthermore, he virtually inaugurated six other projects across the country. In addition, Buhari chaired an extraordinary Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting that lasted from midday until late in the evening on Tuesday before attending the Regimental Dinner.

In a departure from his prepared speech at the Regimental Dinner, President Buhari humbly apologized for the delay, expressing his sincere remorse for keeping the attendees waiting for at least half an hour.

He candidly admitted that he is struggling to cope with the pressure and eagerly anticipating the next six days, which will mark the transition of power.
