2027: Presidency Speaks On Distractions By Peter Obi, Obidients

The hearing for the petition presented by Peter Obi, who ran as the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, at the President Election Petitions Tribunal, has been rescheduled and will now take place on Wednesday, May 17th, News About Nigeria reports.

Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the campaign council of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, shared this information on his Twitter page on Wednesday.

The petition filed by Obi is against Bola Tinubu, the ‘president-elect’ from the All Progressives Congress.

The court decided to postpone the hearing at the request of the parties involved in the petition.

Okonkwo stated, “Following a brief hearing, the court has adjourned the proceedings until Wednesday, May 17th, 2023, for the continuation of the hearing.”

“We remain hopeful for a positive outcome, and we appreciate your prayers and support,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the petition submitted by the Action People’s Party, which challenged Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the presidential election held on February 25th and his subsequent recognition as the ‘president-elect’.

The dismissal of the petition came after the party expressed its desire to withdraw the petition challenging the election results.

During the proceedings, the party’s counsel, Obed Agu, made this announcement.

In response to the application, the presiding judge of the Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Tsammani, issued a brief ruling dismissing the case.

Similarly, on Monday, the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the Action Alliance (AA), which contested Tinubu’s victory.

The AA had withdrawn its petition during the session at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, leading to the dismissal of the case.

No specific reason was provided for the withdrawal.
