In a bid to promote peace and unity in Nigeria, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act into law, News About Nigeria reports.

Speaking during the passing out parade of officers of the corps in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, the governor emphasized that the act becoming law would help to ensure peace and unity in the country.

According to the governor, the establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps would complement the efforts of other security agencies toward maintaining peace across the country.

He also highlighted the importance of the act in providing employment opportunities for a large number of unemployed youths.

“The signing of the act into law would go a long way towards providing employment for a large number of unemployed youths, the governor said.”

Represented by his aide, Ajisafe Toyese, Governor Adeleke urged the Nigerian Peace Corps to unite in forming a common front towards achieving the mandate upon which it is being established.

He also charged the new officer cadets to show discipline and focus when discharging their various duties anywhere they might be posted.

In response, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Peace Corps, Dr. Mustapha Abubakar, thanked President Buhari for agreeing to give assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act.

Dr. Abubakar also emphasized the need for personal development among the new cadets, which would go a long way in adding value to their services in the NPC.

It is noteworthy that the Ooni of Ife had earlier donated land to the corps for its training school in Ile-Ife, Osun State. This gesture underscores the importance of the Nigerian Peace Corps to the country’s overall security and development.

The establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps has been a topic of discussion for several years now, with various groups and individuals calling for its creation.

The signing of the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act into law would be a significant step towards achieving peace and unity in Nigeria, while also providing employment opportunities for the country’s youth population. It is hoped that President Buhari would give his assent to the act without further delay.
