Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has made history by winning the Serie A league title for his Italian club, following a 1-1 draw with Udinese on Thursday. News About Nigeria reports.

The Nigeria-born striker put an end to Napoli’s 33-year title drought in the league by scoring a crucial goal 52 minutes into the game. Lovric opened scoring for Udinese in the 13th minute.

Osimhen, who has scored the most goals for the Italian side this season, has now equaled George Weah’s record for the Highest African Goalscorer in Serie A, with 46 goals. Additionally, he has broken Samuel Eto’s record for the Most Goals scored by an African player in a single Serie A season with 22 goals.

Napoli has won the league cup only twice, with the most recent coming in 1990. The game with Udinese ensured the Nigerian lifted his first Serie A title, amidst chants by Napoli supporters.

The 24-year-old celebrated his latest achievement with the club of his dreams on social media, making a live video where he exclaimed, “Champions man!”

With this latest feat, Osimhen has joined the list of African highest Goalscorers in Europe’s top five Leagues, alongside the likes of Eto, Aubameyang, Weah, among others.

In Serie A, he now shares the top spot with Weah, while Samuel Eto’o is the highest African goalscorer in La Liga with 162 goals. Mohamed Salah leads in the Premier League with 137 goals, Mamadou Niang tops Ligue 1 with 100 goals, and Aubameyang leads in the Bundesliga with 98 goals.

Osimhen’s achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to his hard work and dedication to the game. His fans and supporters are excited about what the future holds for the young striker as he continues to make waves in the world of football.
