Sudan-War Bus on Fire

An unfortunate incident occurred during the evacuation of Nigerians from Sudan due to the ongoing war.

News About Nigeria gathered that one of the 26 buses deployed to transport stranded Nigerians from Khartoum to Port Sudan caught fire after developing a mechanical fault.

The affected bus, Katsina 1, had 50 Nigerian passengers on board, including Dr. Hashim Idris Na’Allah, the chairman of the Nigerian Elders’ Forum (NEF) in Sudan.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.

According to reports, the driver of the bus had to stop near a checkpoint operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) when he noticed excessive heat from one of the tyres.

Shortly after, the tyre exploded, and the bus caught fire.

The RSF personnel at the checkpoint provided assistance to the passengers, and 40 out of the 50 passengers were transferred to the other buses evacuating the students.

The remaining passengers and the driver spent the night at the checkpoint.

The affected Nigerians praised the efforts of the RSF officials who provided them with tea before they resumed their journey.

The incident happened at about 2:30 am Sudan time, and it is unclear whether the affected passengers made it to Port Sudan.

The evacuation exercise is part of the efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to rescue its citizens trapped in Sudan following the war.

The evacuation exercise has been ongoing for some time, and this incident highlights the challenges associated with such exercises, particularly in war-torn regions.

From April 15 onwards, there has been a conflict occurring within the Sudanese Security forces.

This conflict involves two groups: the Army, which is headed by General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are led by General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti.
