Senator Andy Uba, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has denied reports of his arrest in connection with an alleged N50m fraud case, News About Nigeria reports.
Speaking on Monday, Uba warned those responsible for spreading the fake news and rumours to stop tarnishing his image or face legal action.
He expressed disappointment that Nigerian politics had descended to such a level but vowed not to give in to cheap blackmail.
The former senator was reportedly arrested in Abuja on April 26 by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) monitoring Unit, although the exact reason for his arrest remains unknown.
Senator Uba is no stranger to controversy, having been embroiled in various political, business, and private disputes.
His most recent controversy involved a debt of N50 million he owed to renowned businessman Arthur Eze, which led to the seizure of some of his cars when he failed to pay.
Although he had promised to make monthly payments of N1 million, he defaulted on that promise and denied receiving any loan from Eze when the matter went to court.
Despite these controversies, Senator Uba has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, having served as a senior Special Assistant to former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was also a governorship candidate for Anambra State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but lost Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of APGA.
The Federal High Court in Abuja also declared that Andy Uba’s candidacy as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the election was invalid.
The judge, Inyang Ekwo, stated that Uba did not participate in a legally conducted primary election by the APC.
