What UK Prime Minister Told Tinubu Ahead Of Inauguration

UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has written to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s President-elect, ahead of his inauguration on May 29, News About Nigeria.

Sunak expressed eagerness to work with Tinubu and invited him to London in April 2024 for the second Africa Investment Summit.

He views the summit as an opportunity to strengthen UK-Nigerian business partnerships, boost Nigeria’s export competitiveness, and generate jobs and growth.

Sunak also promised continued UK support for Nigeria in addressing security challenges by sharing expertise and tools.

He emphasized the need for liaising with Tinubu and his team through the transition period and following his inauguration.

In his letter, Sunak acknowledged the UK’s long-standing partnership with Nigeria and readiness to support Nigeria’s efforts towards building peace, unity, and prosperity.

He mentioned his pride in the UK’s work supporting access to education and healthcare, improving governance, and helping meet the humanitarian needs of those affected by conflict.

Sunak hoped to expand the partnership further, including through enhancing the trade and investment relationship for mutual prosperity.

The UK Prime Minister also expressed a desire to continue addressing security challenges facing Nigeria and the wider region.

He highlighted the need for sharing expertise and tools to combat the challenges that know no borders.

He informed Tinubu that the National Security Adviser would look forward to further dialogue with his Nigerian counterpart later this year.

Sunak recognized the deep bond between the UK and Nigeria, which comes not only from their shared heritage and links through education, arts, and sport but also their unique relationship through the Commonwealth.

He took pride in the Commonwealth’s values of democracy, good governance, and cooperation and emphasized the need for continued working partnership to tackle global challenges like climate change.
