The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has launched a new initiative to register unemployed individuals in all 20 local government areas of Lagos State, News About Nigeria reports.

This announcement was made by the Lagos State NDE Coordinator, Mrs. Serena Edward, who disclosed that the registration exercise will be held between April 17 and April 28, 2023, both at the NDE state office located at 7, Barikisu Iyede Street, Onike, Yaba, and across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

According to Mrs. Edward, the registration exercise is aimed at creating a comprehensive database of unemployed individuals in the state.

The NDE, which was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1986 to address mass unemployment and reduce the reliance on white-collar jobs, hopes to use this data to make adequate plans for the unemployed in the country.

The registration exercise is open to all unemployed individuals residing in Lagos State, regardless of age, gender, or educational qualification.

To register, individuals are required to visit their designated local government areas and provide their personal details, including their name, address, phone number, and educational qualification.

Speaking on the importance of the registration exercise, Mrs. Edward said, “We urge all unemployed persons in Lagos State to take advantage of this opportunity to register at their designated local governments to benefit from the programme. The federal government is committed to creating jobs and reducing the unemployment rate in the country, and this registration exercise will help us to achieve that.”

The NDE has been actively involved in providing employment opportunities for Nigerians, with various initiatives such as the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS), and the Special Public Works Programme (SPWP).

The registration exercise in Lagos State is part of the NDE’s efforts to create a comprehensive database of unemployed individuals in the country and develop targeted employment interventions to address the unemployment challenge in Nigeria.
