An unidentified number of people have been killed following an intertribal conflict between the Fulani and Hausa people in the Gwadabawa community of Sokoto state.

They were said to be casualties from both sides, including a soldier while many others sustained injuries.

This is according to reports gathered by News About Nigeria and a local official, Aminu Gwadabawa, who spoke to VOA Hausa in an interview monitored by our correspondent on Saturday.

Gwadabawa said, “People in the area were living in fear, as the conflict even claimed the life of a soldier.

“They are afraid of reprisal attacks from the Fulani bandits.”

A survivor said his family was attacked by the Fulani.

“The Fulani attacked my relation with knives. But he has spiritual powers that would not allow sharp objects to pierce his skin.

“So they intensified the attack on him and succeeded in hacking his head off his body, ” he said.

On the other hand, a Fulani man who also survived the clash said he was shot at twice after begging not to be killed.

“I was shot at twice but I survived. I begged them not to kill me. But they shot at me.”

Reports gathered from VOA Hausa stated that the Sokoto State Police Command were contacted but they said they were yet to get details of the attack.

The area was also said to be frequently attacked by people suspected to be Fulani bandits.

However, there have been no comments from the Sokoto State Government on the clash at the time of filing this report.
