In a promising turn of events, Rev. Fr. Joseph Azubuike of St. Charles Parish in Mgbaleze Isu, Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State, along with three fellow captives, has been released by their abductors.
The incident took place in the town of Isu, situated within the Onicha Local Government Area of the state.
NEWS ABOUT NIGERIA reports that Authorities from the Ebonyi State Police Command and the Abakaliki Diocese of the Catholic Church have confirmed the successful rescue, providing relief to the concerned public.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, stated that Rev. Fr. Joseph Azubuike was freed unharmed at approximately 6:00 PM.
The diligent efforts of the police operatives contributed to the successful release of the priest. While the kidnappers managed to evade capture during the rescue operation, authorities are actively pursuing their apprehension.
At present, Rev. Fr. Joseph Azubuike is undergoing medical assessments at a local hospital to ensure his well-being.
In a separate statement, Rev. Father Mathew Opoke, the Chancellor of the Abakaliki Diocese, also confirmed the safe rescue of Azubuike and disclosed that the three additional victims were released without any conditions.
The community, which had been anxiously awaiting news of their beloved priest’s fate, now finds solace in this miraculous turn of events.
