A native doctor from the Inyi community in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Enuwa Odugu, is facing serious allegations following the death of his client, Chikwado Eze, during a fortification ritual.
News About Nigeria reports that Odugu claims that Eze’s death resulted from the client’s failure to adhere to specific ritual rules.
Speaking from police custody, the 48-year-old native doctor stated that this was not the first time he had conducted such rituals.
He said that the tragic outcome stemmed from Eze’s disobedience.
Eze, who had recently obtained a visa to travel abroad, died after being buried alive for one and a half hours during a ceremony intended to ensure his success in business overseas.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the situation through spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe.
Both Odugu and Eze’s father, Uwakwe Eze, along with several accomplices, have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
The police report indicated that Odugu confessed to the crime and revealed connections to another murder case.
In this separate incident, 24-year-old Kingsley Okoro and 18-year-old Samuel Ogbonna were arrested for the murder of 52-year-old Patience Nkem Charles.
Okoro, who had previously worked as the victim’s security guard, admitted that a longstanding grudge motivated the attack.
The suspects allegedly strangled Charles in her home and were apprehended based on police intelligence.
They have since been arraigned in court and remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre.
The police said these incidents are examples of the dangers posed by harmful traditional practices and personal grievances, adding that investigations are ongoing, with prosecutions expected to follow.
