Concerns have been raised about a copy of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) judgement that has been widely disseminated by Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president Atiku Abubakar’s special assistant on communications.
News About Nigeria recalls that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku, signed a petition challenging President Bola Tinubu’s election victory on February 25.
Due to the inclusion of “Tinubu Presidential Legal Team” in the header, a viral copy of the judgment that was issued on Wednesday validating Tinubu’s election has attracted attention.
Shaibu responded by arguing that the PEPC needs to explain the development to Nigerians and the rest of the world in a statement on Saturday.
“After causing needless delay in availing the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his legal team Certified True Copies of its judgment, the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) must explain to Nigerians and the world ambiguities around why copies of the judgment bears the header of the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team,” the statement read.
He further cleared that his concerns are not geared towards stirring up controversy on the matter.
He, however, argued that it is very important that the PEPC tells Nigerians why they chose to affix the header of the Respondents on the CTC copy of their judgment when the copies were meant for the petitioners did not have the same.
There have been suggestions in the buildup to the verdict delivery of the PEPT that the judiciary was being pressured to rule in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
However, since the tribunal delivered its ruling in favor of President Bola Tinubu many supporters of the opposition parties have continued to condemn the ruling delivered by the PEPT.
