President Bola Tinubu has called on Niger Delta leaders to advise Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to follow the Supreme Court’s decision on the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Speaking at a closed-door meeting with members of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu stressed that the responsibility for maintaining peace in Rivers now rests with the region’s leaders.

The President reminded the delegation that the rule of law remains the foundation of democracy.

He urged them to recognize the authority of the judiciary and ensure that court rulings are respected.

He also appealed to them to put aside personal interests and work towards the progress of the state and the entire region, News About Nigeria reports.

During the meeting, Tinubu expressed confidence in the judiciary, stating that no one, including himself, could govern the country without upholding the rule of law.

He urged the leaders to return home and help implement the court’s decision, assuring them that the federal government would continue to support the peace process in Rivers.

He said, “Please go back home and help implement the court rulings within the shortest possible time. I am putting the ball in your court. Help. Privately and openly intervene and counsel the governor. Pursue the path of peace and stability.’’

He further reassured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to the Niger Delta, promising continued efforts to improve infrastructure, economic opportunities, and social development in the region.

The President acknowledged the challenges faced by the people and encouraged unity in addressing the political crisis.
