Bishop Alfred ‘Lahojah’ Ogunnusi of the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church has issued an apology after a video of his unusual anointing ritual went viral.
The footage, sighted by News About Nigeria, showed him performing a tongue-to-tongue anointing with a younger bishop.
This act quickly sparked outrage, with many condemning it as inappropriate.
Initially, Bishop Ogunnusi defended the ritual, insisting that it was rooted in biblical teachings.
He referenced scriptures to justify his actions and dismissed the criticism.
However, as the backlash grew, he released another video, retracting his statement and seeking forgiveness from both the church and the Christian community.
In his apology, he acknowledged that his actions had caused distress and asked for understanding.
“Please don’t be angry. Everyone who believes what I did was wrong, please forgive me. I seek forgiveness. What happened in the viral video was what I did, and I led the session. I greet all pastors and Christians and ask them to forgive and not be angry”, he said.
The Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church distanced itself from him, stating that he was not a recognized member.
The church leadership condemned the act, describing it as unacceptable and clarifying that their doctrine does not support such practices.
They explained that while many people wear white garments similar to theirs, not everyone is a legitimate member of their organization.
Further investigations revealed that the anointing ceremony took place in Ogun State, involving an individual identified as Benjamin, also known as Ajigbo.
The church said that its members strictly follow traditional Christian values and do not engage in idolatrous practices.
They urged the public not to associate the viral video with their denomination.
