Seven Rescued from Human Traffickers in Ogun, Anambra-Linked Vehicle Seized

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued seven individuals from a suspected human trafficking syndicate in the Oja-Odan area of Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, identified as Emmanuel Anyigor, 25; Chidioke Basil, 20; Osondu Marvellous, 19; John Peter Ogar, 18; Emecheta Chimaodi, 18; Ifeanyi Uchechukwu, 18; and Anizoba Emmanuel, 18, were reportedly being transported to the Republic of Gambia before security operatives intercepted the operation.

Spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the rescue occurred on Monday along the Oja-Odan/Ohunbe Road.

According to Odutola, the victims were found in a white Volkswagen bus with registration number KRD 28 YL, marked as belonging to the Government of Anambra State.

The vehicle was driven by Ezeani John Paul, a resident of Ichida, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State.

“When questioned, the occupants were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding their journey to the Republic of Gambia,” Odutola disclosed.

She added that the driver and several other passengers in the vehicle were apprehended and detained for further investigation.

“Following the discovery, the driver and passengers were taken into custody by security personnel. Investigations are ongoing, and all suspects, along with the intercepted vehicle, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further enquiries,” she stated.

The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety of residents.

The incident adds to a growing number of trafficking cases intercepted along major routes within the state, signaling intensified security surveillance.
