President-elect of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, has appointed former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Linda McMahon, as education secretary.
News About Nigeria reports that the appointment follows Trump’s revelation during his campaign that he planned to eliminate the federal education department upon his return to the White House.
“I say it all the time. I’m dying to get back to do this. We will ultimately eliminate the federal Department of Education,” he said in September during a rally in Wisconsin.
Trump made Linda’s appointment public in a statement released yesterday (Tuesday).
Speaking about her appointment, Trump noted that Linda is the best fit for the job, as she has led change in various capacities, including education and business, over the years.
He said, “For the past four years, as the Chair of the Board at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), Linda has been a fierce advocate for Parents’ Rights, working hard at both AFPI and America First Works (AFW) to achieve Universal School Choice in 12 states, giving children the opportunity to receive an excellent education, regardless of zip code or income. We will send education back to the states, and Linda will spearhead that effort.”
Reacting to the appointment, the former WWE CEO expressed her readiness to revamp America’s education sector, adding that she is excited to work with Trump in doing so.
According to reports, Linda was a major donor and early supporter of the Republican president-elect when he first ran for the White House almost a decade ago.
The co-founder and former CEO of the WWE professional wrestling franchise resigned in 2019 to lead the pro-Trump spending group America First Action.
She also chairs the America First Policy Institute and is a co-chair of Trump’s transition team ahead of his return to the White House in January.
