Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has expressed his support for medical students who leave the country after graduation to seek greener pastures abroad, News About Nigeria reports.
He made this known when he visited two higher institutions in Anambra State to make a donation of N60 million.
He noted that if Nigeria is fixed, those who have migrated abroad will return, adding that students who want to seek better opportunities outside Nigeria after their graduation can do so.
Obi maintained that the students should be free to go to where it will work for them, if Nigeria is not that place.
According to him, he will not advise anyone to stay where it is difficult for them.
He also expressed optimism that when Nigeria becomes great, they will return and enjoy the benefits of practicing in a working country.
He stated, “It is my dedication to keep supporting institutions that nurture skill, professionalism, and character.
“This is something I do every year, and today I’m here to give you my donation for this year. Those of us in public life should be able to earn public trust, and that is why I am here to do as I said.
“I have always told the Nursing Council not to restrict you people from travelling abroad after graduation. If it is not going to work for you here, go to where it will work for you.
“We will not advise anyone to stay where it is difficult for them. If you want to seek greener pastures outside, please go. I’m sure that when we build a greater Nigeria, you will come back.”
The former governor made N50 million donation to Peter University in Achina/Onneh and N10 million to the School of Nursing Sciences, Adazi-Nnukwu.
