The Dangote Refinery is well on its way to start exporting fuel to South Africa and other African countries.
An anonymous source disclosed this on Friday, noting that the refinery’s management is in advanced negotiations with various countries, including South Africa, Angola, and Namibia, to begin fuel exports.
Additional countries reportedly interested in lifting fuel from the refinery include Niger Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, with more expected to follow in the coming months.
News About Nigeria also reported that Ghana recently expressed interest in purchasing fuel from the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.
Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Chairman of Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority, stated that an agreement with Dangote could end Ghana’s $400 million monthly fuel imports from Europe.
The source also claimed that some Nigerian oil marketers are refraining from purchasing from Dangote Refinery due to hidden agendas.
“Talks are at an advanced stage with Ghana, Angola, Namibia, and South Africa, while initial discussions are ongoing with Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, and Central African Republic,” they stated.
“Marketers refusing to buy from the Dangote refinery all have hidden agendas. However, between now and January 2025, their plans will be exposed. Dangote Refinery remains the hope for a sustainable fuel supply and has the capacity to serve the entire nation,” the source added.
