In a statement on Wednesday issued by the force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP’s heartfelt expressed condolences to the Kano police command and bereaved families.
“The Inspector-General of Police commiserates with the Kano State Command, families and friends of the five (5) policemen who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Tuesday at Karfi village in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, along Zaria-Kano Expressway, while returning to Kano after the Edo State election duties,” the statement reads.
“The IGP prays for the repose of their souls.”
The police boss praised the Nigeria Police Force and partner agencies for their professionalism in maintaining order during the Edo gubernatorial election.
Muyiwa Adejobi noted that the IGP has directed tactical teams and intelligence units to continue strengthening security in the state pending further instructions.
Speaking on the election-related arrests, Adejobi stated that those accused of electoral offences will face prosecution by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while other criminal offenders will be arraigned in court upon investigation completion.
Ahead of the election, the police ordered restrictions on vehicular movement from 6 am to 6 pm in the state, adding that police decided to listen to the citizens’ complaints by adjusting the curfew period.
