Amotekun Operatives Nab 21 Criminals, Including Kidnappers, In Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has said that its operatives arrested 21 suspected criminals in a few weeks, News About Nigeria reports.

Speaking on Tuesday in Akure, the state capital, Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of Amotekun in Akure, said that 19 of the criminals were arrested for law and order offences.

He also said that two of the suspected criminals were confirmed to be kidnappers and added that its operatives acted on credible information received from the public.

The commander warned against buying second-hand items at suspiciously low prices, as it perpetuates crime.

Adeleye warned against patronising Okada riders who cover their heads with hoods, leaving only their eyes and nose visible.

He added that the corps broke a syndicate that stole motorcycles from innocent riders using new tactics.

“In spite of the means to checkmate these criminals, they are also moving forward with their activities, but we got them through receipt of credible information from the public,” NAN qouted Adeleye as saying.

“We also have a group who specialises in breaking into empty, unoccupied houses where the owners are not around.

“They burgle and empty the house of everything and it is sold round to people in various local governments, but we were able to retrieve some of them from the different local governments.

“We equally have suspected kidnappers apprehended around where the ransom was paid. They have given us useful information.

“We have devised security tactics to bring about relative peace at the border of the local governments of Edo-Ondo and Edo-Kogi. The results will be visible within a few days.

“The implication is that Ondo State remains relatively peaceful despite pockets of robbery and kidnapping at the borders.”
