Some aggrieved staff members from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) are voicing their discontent to the government, News About Nigeria reports.
The security agencies’ operatives are protesting the prolonged delay in the payment of salary and promotion arrears for newly promoted officers.
In an interview with the Daily Sun, the staff members, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed their grievances.
They noted the disparities and inconsistencies in the handling of promotion and salary payments among various paramilitary agencies.
A concerned officer disclosed that the Nigerian Correctional Service has consistently promoted staff over the past three years without addressing the corresponding salary arrears.
“It’s appalling that some officers received promotions in December 2023 without proper placement or payment of promotion arrears,” the officer lamented.
Despite numerous promises, the issue remains unresolved, with no action taken by the authorities.
In contrast, the Immigration Service and Fire Service have efficiently processed promotions and salary payments for their officers since March 2023, further highlighting the disparity.
The officer appealed to the Minister of Interior to intervene promptly, describing the situation as a social injustice and unfair treatment of NSCDC and Correctional Service officers.
He asked for a thorough investigation into the implementation of promotion and salary arrears.
The officer also suggested that the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Services and the Commandant General of NSCDC be held accountable, as well as the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) for the discrepancies in payment processing.
IPPIS is one of the transformation agendas of the Federal Government of Nigeria with the aim of creating a centralised database system for Nigerian Public Service with a single, accurate source of employee information that provides integration with other business applications.
