Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have invaded the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
The invasion was made public by the SERAP in a post on its official X account on Monday.
In the post, the human rights group revealed that the officers who invaded the office were asking to see the rights group’s directors.
They also called on President Bola Tinubu to order the DSS to stop the harassment and intimidation.
The post reads, “Officers from Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) are presently unlawfully occupying SERAP’s office in Abuja, asking to see our directors. President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation, and attack on the rights of Nigerians.”
News About Nigeria earlier reported that the DSS had in the early hours of today (Monday) arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to reports, Ajaero was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom (UK) for an official assignment when DSS picked him up.
His arrest has been confirmed by the NLC in a statement by its Head of Media/Information, Benson Upah.
In the statement, Upah described the arrest as “an unmistakable demonstration of the height of lawlessness being perpetuated by the Nigerian government and its agencies in their bid to silence every voice of dissent and opposition in the country as the economic policies of the government continue to afflict the people with monumental suffering and hardship.”
