Dangote Refinery Commences Petrol Production

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied setting a price for its petrol, contrary to reports circulating in the media.

News About Nigeria gathered that a pump price of the premium motor spirit, otherwise known as petrol, has been selling for N750- N1,000 in many filling stations across Nigeria.

Reports had suggested that oil marketers predicted a price point of N600 per litre for petrol from the refinery.

However, Anthony Chiejina, the Dangote Group’s chief communications officer, clarified that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not a partner of the refinery and, therefore, has no authority to comment on its pricing.

Chiejina stated that the refinery has never discussed petrol pricing with IPMAN and urged the public to disregard speculative announcements, as the company has official channels for communicating information to stakeholders.

“We would like to clarify that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not our business partner yet,” Chiejina said.

“We have never discussed the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with a hidden transcript.”

He urged the public to desist from such speculative announcements, adding, “We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders.”

This development comes as the Dangote refinery is expected to begin supplying petrol this month, following its earlier announcement on July 15 that petrol supply would commence in August.

On July 29, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a proposal by President Bola Tinubu directing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to sell crude oil to Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other refineries in naira.
