The Kaduna State Security Council has issued a stern warning to individuals disguising themselves as protesters to cause chaos and destruction.
News About Nigeria reports that, following a thorough assessment of the current security situation, the Council declared that such criminal elements would face severe consequences.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced that the Council has prohibited unverified processions due to concerns for public safety and security.
This decision comes after intelligence revealed that criminals were exploiting genuine protests to commit acts of terror and vandalism.
The Council acknowledged the fundamental rights of citizens to freedom of expression and assembly but stated that security forces would not tolerate criminals exploiting these rights.
The statement urged citizens to adhere to the 6 pm to 8 am curfew and report any suspicious activities to the Security Operations Room.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and properties and vowed to take decisive action against anyone perpetrating violence or criminality.
The statement highlighted the Council’s review of the current security situation, emphasising the need to maintain law and order.
On August 7, Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed in the state to checkmate the breakdown of law and order during the #EndBadGovernance protest.
Samuel Aruwan, the overseeing commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna, said the curfew is not from 8 am to 6 pm daily, effective August 8.
Aruwan said the Kaduna State Security Council relaxed the curfew after a “thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna, Zaria, and environs.”
