A devastating fire ravaged a fueling station owned by Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc, situated on Obafemi Awolowo road in Ikeja, Lagos.

News About Nigeria learnt that the inferno erupted on Thursday morning, engulfing a gas tanker and several vehicles, including cars and buses, within the station’s premises.

Eyewitnesses report that the blast occurred while a gas tanker was offloading fuel, sparking a massive fire that quickly spread to nearby vehicles.

“I was driving by when I saw the explosion,” said one witness. “It was like a huge ball of fire. I immediately pulled over and called the emergency services.”

LASEMA officials have confirmed that several vehicles, including cars and buses, were burnt in the fire.

The filling station itself has also suffered significant damage.

“The fire is under control, but it’s been a challenging operation,” said a LASEMA spokesperson. “We’re working to ensure the area is safe and secure.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but investigators are working to determine the origin of the blast.

In related news, the Lagos State Government has announced plans to increase safety measures at filling stations across the state.

The move comes after a series of recent fire incidents at fueling stations.

“We’re committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens,” said a government spokesperson. “We’ll be working with filling station owners to implement new safety protocols.”

Meanwhile, residents in the area have expressed concern about the frequency of fire incidents in the state.

“It’s becoming too common,” said one resident. “Something needs to be done to address the issue.”

The fire at the Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc filling station is just the latest in a string of incidents that have raised concerns about safety in Lagos.
