Hoodlums Attack Bus Carrying Palliatives In Cross River, Injure Three

Some hoodlums on Tuesday attacked a bus loaded with palliatives belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Cross River State Council.

News About Nigeria gathered that the hoodlums numbering over 100 attacked the bus on its way back from receiving the palliatives from the state government.

According to the report, journalists in the state, upon receiving information from the Director of Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CR-SEMA), Rev. James Anam, that they were beneficiaries of the present phase of distribution, hurriedly moved to the government warehouse and successfully conveyed the food items from Barracks Road, Calabar.

However, the palliative-laden vehicle, which was headed for the NUJ Secretariat, was attacked by the hoodlums who were throwing stones at the vehicle which was moving slowly because of how loaded it was.

The hoodlums were said to have carted away several food items from the damaged windows of the vehicle.

Speaking to newsmen, the bus driver, Joseph Akpaenin, who was left with a bruised shoulder from the attack, revealed that what helped them to escape alive was that the booth of the bus was flung open with several bags of rice and garri dropping off.

He further noted that when this happened, the mob’s focus shifted from the bus to the items dropping off the bus, giving them enough room to scamper to safety.

The driver also revealed that the attack left two other persons who were with him; a Tribune reporter, Joseph Abasi-Abasi, and the Council’s auxiliary staff, Saviour Ekpenyong, with heavy bruises and injuries.

However, they are both currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the state.
