Protect Dangote Refinery From Threats, Kwankwaso Tells FG

Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has urged the federal government to ensure the success of the Dangote refinery project.

News About Nigeria reports that Kwankwaso criticised government officials for raising unnecessary concerns about the refinery’s integrity, which he deemed unfortunate and potentially harmful.

Aliko Dangote, the founder of the refinery, has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of obstructing the refinery’s operations, prompting Kwankwaso’s intervention.

Kwankwaso emphasised the need for the Nigerian government to treat the Dangote refinery project with fairness and support, given its significance and potential impact on the country.

“I was privileged to visit the magnificent Dangote Refinery, and I was marveled by the sheer commitment that went into the quality of its establishment,” he wrote on X.

“This 650,000 bpd refinery is essential for our energy needs and economic stability, and it must be protected from all forms of threat.

“The creation of unnecessary fuss around its integrity by some vested interests is very unfortunate, and it stands to undo all the years of hard work to maintain the fragile investor confidence in our economy.

“It’s time for us to rally around this National Asset to ensure that the monumental project does not fail. It cannot fail, and the Nigerian government must understand this by demonstrating fairness and confidence in both domestic and foreign critical investments. – RMK”

Recall that on June 22, Dangote expressed his willingness to sell his oil refinery to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

He also addressed accusations of monopolistic practices, stating, “Let them (NNPCL) buy me out and run the refinery the best way they can. They have labelled me a monopolist. That’s an incorrect and unfair allegation, but it’s okay. If they buy me out, at least their so-called monopolist would be out of the way.”
