Katsina Gov Doles Out Measures To Tackle Insecurity

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has handed over power to his deputy, Malam Faruq Lawal-Jobe, to embark on a one-month vacation.

The handover was made public by the governor on Wednesday during a joint meeting with local government chairmen, legislatures, and the executive.

The governor, who is set to take off tomorrow (Thursday), revealed that his vacation would elapse on August 18, 2024.

He, therefore, tasked the local government chairmen, legislatures, and the executive to give the deputy governor their maximum support as he takes over the affairs of Katsina State.

Governor Radda said, “I also want to seize this opportunity to inform you that I will proceed with my vacation and medical checkup from Thursday until Aug. 18. So, I have transmitted power formally to the deputy governor to act in an acting capacity for this period. I also sent a letter to the assembly and they okayed my leave as provided by the constitution of this country.

“I wish the acting governor well in the discharge of your responsibility. And for the members of the assembly, judiciary, the executive council and the local government chairmen, I want you to give him all the necessary cooperation and support. To the people of Katsina State, we thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to serve you.”

News About Nigeria reports that the governor’s vacation was granted in response to a formal letter addressed to the Speaker, which was read before the session by the Assembly Chief Whip, Ibrahim Dikko.

In his application, Radda cited Section 190 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers state houses of assembly to grant such requests from the executive arm.
