Female Biker Dies In Lagos Accident

A yet-to-be-identified female biker has died from an accident with a truck in the Sifax inward Iganmu Bridge area of Lagos state, News About Nigeria reports.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

LASTMA’s Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, noted that the accident happened on Monday after a containerised truck driver lost control of the vehicle while in motion and the truck fell on the female biker while descending the bridge.

He stated that the body of the deceased had been recovered from under the truck by the authority, adding that the truck driver fled from the scene after the accident.

“Early this morning, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders recovered the body of a female biker trapped under a loaded containerised truck in Lagos.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was speeding, lost control and caused the truck to fall on the female biker. The driver fled the scene upon realising the severity of the accident,” the statement reads in part.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, also confirmed the incident, adding that it occurred at approximately 6:15 am.

Giwa said that immediately after the incident, LASTMA personnel called in other emergency responders, including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for a rescue operation.

Giwa stated that the Lagos State Ambulance Service had taken away the deceased’s body, and the containerised truck evacuated to clear the way for free vehicular movement on Iganmu Bridge.

He also added that police officers have been deployed to ensure security during the rescue operation.
