Miyetti Allah Gets New Caretaker Committee In South East

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has stated that it has inaugurated a new caretaker committee in the south-eastern region of Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

The association’s National Deputy Director-General and the Sarkin Fulani Awka, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, disclosed this in a meeting held in Enugu during the weekend.

He noted that MACBAN also dissolved its elected executive committee members in all five states in the southeast region of the country, adding that the dissolution followed the expiration of the tenures of all the state executive committees in Nigeria.

According to him, the tenure of all state executive councils in Nigeria elapsed on February 27, 2024, which  prompted the national executive led by President Baba Othman Ngelzarma to dissolve the state executives across the country.

He further disclosed that he was appointed the interim head of MACBAN in Anambra State to conduct elections and fill the leadership vacuum created by the expiration of the tenures of the state chapters of MACBAN in Southeast states and Nigeria.

Siddiki noted that MACBAN is an organisation representing pastoralists engaged in legitimate cattle breeding and sales activities across all 36 states of Nigeria, adding that it operates democratically, conducting elections every four years to elect its leadership.

“Today’s meeting is convened to inform our members of this decision and introduce the newly appointed caretaker committees to the public.

“We reiterate our advisory to members to avoid actions that could jeopardise peaceful coexistence with our hosts while emphasising solidarity in combating threats to our collective security.

“We extend our gratitude to the government, traditional and spiritual leaders across the Southeast for their continued support and recognition of our community. We also appreciate the timely response and assistance of security agencies, including the police, army, DSS, and other security outfits, in addressing our concerns,” he stated.
