Oche Thompson, brother of former Super Eagles midfielder Onazi Ogenyi, was involved in a fatal car accident that claimed the life of his wife, Ann, News About Nigeria reports.
The tragic incident was revealed by Onazi on his Instagram page on Friday.
According to Onazi, the accident occurred on Tuesday, June 18th, around 4 p.m.
He said that his brother and sister-in-law were travelling when a truck loaded with fertiliser lost control and collided with more than ten vehicles.
Ann died instantly in the crash, while Oche survived but suffered multiple dislocated joints and required surgery.
Several others were also reported dead.
In his post, the former Lazio and Denizlispor player expressed his grief and called for urgent action from the Nigerian federal government and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
“This is a message to the federal government of Nigeria.. and the federal @frscnigeria,” Onazi wrote.

Onazi pointed out the issue of unqualified drivers operating heavy vehicles on Nigerian roads, revealing that the truck driver involved in the accident did not have a proper driving licence.
“My point is this, the driver ran away after some calls the police managed to pick him up After interrogation I get to know that the driver does not have proper driving license and he was handed this kind of truck to destroy life’s..”
He lamented the frequent occurrence of fatal accidents caused by reckless truck and tanker drivers in Nigeria.
“Driving in Nigeria you will know that a lot of people driving on the road don’t have proper driving knowledge. Lately trucks and tank driver have been killing a lot of people because of reckless driving. I am really sad and confused.. Ann Onazi rest well.”
This heartbreaking incident follows another tragedy involving retired Super Eagles forward Tijani Babangida, who in early May lost his son and brother in a ghastly car accident, which also left his wife with a severe injury resulting in the loss of one eye.
