In preparation for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed Commissioners of Police in all states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, along with their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, to ensure maximum security in their respective areas.
News About Nigeria reports that IGP Egbetokun issued this directive in a statement released by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday.
The IGP said it is important to maintain robust and responsive policing to safeguard citizens during the celebrations.
The statement reads, “The IGP has directed Commissioners of Police in all the States of the Federation and the FCT, along with their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, to strategically configure the security architecture in their Areas of Responsibility for robust and responsive policing ahead of the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.”
IGP Egbetokun also mandated Zonal AIGs and State Command CPs to deploy human and operational assets for confidence-building and crime prevention patrols on major highways, as well as in residential and industrial areas.
“These operations are to be conducted professionally, without harassment or extortion, ensuring respect for the fundamental rights of citizens. Personnel deployed are to perform their duties with discipline, professionalism, decorum, and alertness,” the statement added.
The IGP also urged the general public to adhere to all safety, security, and traffic advisories during the festive period to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration.
He extended his best wishes to all Muslim faithful across the country, hoping for a joyous and safe Eid-el-Kabir.
