Ahead of the November 16, 2024, Ondo State Governorship Election, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has withdrawn his case against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The withdrawal notice, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/588/2024, stated that Ibrahim’s decision to discontinue the suit was “in the interest of all concerned.”
Ibrahim, a senator representing Ondo South and a former aspirant in the APC’s April 20 governorship primary, had accused the party of disregarding its guidelines during the primary process.
He labelled the primary, which saw Aiyedatiwa emerge as the party’s candidate, as a “mega fraud” and sought to annul the results.
The defendants in Ibrahim’s suit included Aiyedatiwa, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, in a statement released on Tuesday, Ibrahim announced the withdrawal of the lawsuit, citing the intervention of President Bola Tinubu and his commitment to enhancing internal democracy within the APC.
“Though efforts by Aiyedatiwa to get me to withdraw the suit were unsuccessful, I cannot disobey the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because the issue I am fighting for is not personal. It is simply to improve internal democracy, to which the President has promised improvement. My respect for the President is absolute,” Ibrahim stated.
He further explained that his decision to withdraw the case was his “cake gift” to President Tinubu on the occasion of the President’s first anniversary in office.
News About Nigeria reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State suspended Jimoh Ibrahim for alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced by 16 members of the APC executive from Ibrahim’s Igbotako Ward II in Okitipupa Local Government Area.
Ibrahim’s suspension followed his challenge to the party’s primary election, which resulted in the selection of Aiyedatiwa as the APC candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election.
