Why Court Should Not Grant Binance Executive Bail – EFCC

Tigran Gambaryan, the Binance Executive that was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, today (Thursday) slumped in court.

News About Nigeria gathered that Gambaryan collapsed shortly after he was called upon by the court registrar for continuation of trial.

He was said to have been assisted to the dock by one of the lawyers in the defence team, who sat beside him.

However, as they walked slowly to the dock, Gambaryan slumped and the lawyer assisted him to sit in the front row seat.

Speaking for him, Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi (SAN), told the court that Gambaryan is undisposed and would not be able to continue with the case today.

He further told Justice Emeka Nwite that he had submitted a letter detailing his client’s health conditions to the court, asking the court to adjourn so that the defendant could be given adequate medical attention.

He said, My client has been indisposed and a written application letter had been filed to notify the court of this. My lord, the case may not certainly proceed today.”

After Mordi’s appeal to the court, the counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ekele Iheanacho, did not oppose the call for an adjournment.

Subsequently, Justice Nwite fixed June 20 and 21 for cross-examination and trial.

The Binance executive was said to have rested on the arm of the chair where he sat throughout today’s proceeding.

Recall that, Gambaryan, Anjarwalla, and their cryptocurrency firm, Binance Holdings are facing money laundering and terrorism financing charges, brought against them by the EFCC.

He is currently being remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre.
