Edo Gov. Increases Minimum Wage To N70,000 

Workers in Edo state have appreciated the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, for the increase of the minimum wage of workers in the state.

News About Nigeria reports that the governor announced the increase of the minimum wage from N40,000 to N70,000 yesterday.

According to Obaseki, the increase is in line with the current economic situations and challenges bedevilling the nation.

He further noted that he believes that the increase will go a long way in helping the workers as the current state of the nation’s economy is at its lowest.

Obaseki had also announced that the new mininum wage of N70,000 will be effective from May 1, 2024.

Reacting to his announcement, the chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Odion Olaye, commended the governor for being workers-friendly since he assumed office.

According to him, workers in the state are grateful to the governor and are committed to building the state with him.

He further noted that the new minimum wage will go a long way in helping workers, adding that the union is grateful to the governor for his thoughtfulness and for the increase even when the Federal government is yet to approve a new mininum wage.

Olaye said, “I commend the governor for increasing the minimum wage from N40,000 to N70,000 and this will help the workers a great deal. The increment is coming at a time when the Federal Government is yet to approve a new minimum wage. We also commend him for the Labour House he is completing and inaugurating, which will be to the benefit of all trade unions in the state.”
