NEMA Confirms Two Missing, Others Injured As Danfo Crashes In Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed on Wednesday that two people were missing and several others were injured as a commercial vehicle (danfo) crashed on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.

Farinloye explained that the accident happened when the bus driver, who was at high speed, forcefully hit the bridge rails, leading to two people falling into the lagoon.

While revealing that the crash occurred near the Adeniyi Adele axis towards Lagos Island, Farinloye added that the injured passengers have been taken to the hospital for proper medical attention as proper investigations into the accident are currently ongoing.

He further revealed that the Marine Police are currently conducting a search operation for the missing passengers.

Also confirming the tragic incident, an X user, @aprokonurse_, who was a passenger in the Danfo bus that crashed, shared the incident in a post on his X account.

In the post,  the X user blamed the accident on the front tyre of the bus, adding that Danfo buses are no longer fit to ply Lagos roads.

While thanking God for sparing his life and that of others who survived the accident with minor injuries, @aprokonurse_ prayed that the people who fell into the lagoon be found alive.

He said, “The bus I entered had an accident on 3rd mainland bridge this morning. One person is missing in the water. The front tyre of the bus caused it. These yellow buses are unfit to plough the road, risking people’s lives, I thank God for our lives, I pray the missing person will be found.”
