Kaduna School Children Were Released Without Any Ransom - FG

The news reaching News About Nigeria is that the over 200 schoolchildren who were abducted by terrorists in Kaduna State on March 7 have been released.

Their freedom was disclosed by the state governor, Uba Sani, in a statement shared on his official X account in the early hours of Monday.

According to the governor, the schoolchildren regained their freedom on Sunday evening and would be reunited with their families after they had gotten proper medical attention.

“I am glad to see our released Kuriga children in high spirits on Sunday evening when I visited them. They will be formally handed over to me on Monday afternoon after which they will be hosted to dinner at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. They will continue to undergo psychosocial counseling and proper medical supervision for the meantime,” the governor stated.

Although the governor’s statement did not give full details on how the schoolchildren regained their freedom, the Nigerian Army has revealed that they facilitated their freedom.

According to the Spokesman for Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Edward Buba, the Nigerian army rescued the staff and students without the payment of ransom.

Buba further noted that the Army, together with local authorities, facilitated their rescue in a coordination operation on Sunday.

“In the early hours of March 24, 2024, the military, working with local authorities and government agencies across the country in a coordinated search and rescue operation, rescued the hostages,” he noted in a statement.

He also noted that the students, who were freed in a forest, have been taken to the state’s capital for medical tests and proper medical attention before they will be reunited with their families.

News About Nigeria had reported that terrorists invaded the LGEA Primary School, Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and abducted over 200 pupils and teachers immediately after the morning assembly session on March 7.
