16 Lives Lost In Ore-Ondo Highway Crash – FRSC Faults Reckless Driving

The Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed on Tuesday that one person has been pronounced dead while five others sustained varying degrees of injury in a lone accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.

The accident, according to the FRSC, involved 23 people who happened to be all male.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, who spoke to newsmen, revealed that the accident occurred around the Fidiwo axis of the expressway.

She further revealed that it was a lone crash involving a truck that was travelling at high speed before its tyre burst.

Explaining the cause of the crash, Okpe noted that the primary cause was over-speeding which led to the bursting of the tyre.

She said, “23 persons involved, all male, five injured and one person killed. It was a lone crash involving a truck. The cause of the crash was tyre bust and speeding.”

She also advised motorists and road users to adhere to safety precautions and avoid over-speeding so as to secure their lives.

“Motorists are advised to always drive with caution on the expressway so as to prevent needless loss of lives,” Okpe said.

 

News About Nigeria reports that Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have become a death trap and an accident zone in recent times.

A similar tragic incident occured on the Expressway among many others on the 13th of February, 2024 which claimed the lives of five persons and left 12 people injured.

According to reports, the accident involved a Mazda bus and a Howo truck.

The driver of the Mazda bus was said to have fell asleep due to fatigue, lost control in the process, and rammed into the moving truck.
