Nigerian Army Troops Killed During Peacekeeping Mission In Delta

Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed for a peacekeeping mission to resolve a conflict between two warring communities in Bomadi Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State suffered heavy casualties, including the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers.

Confirming the tragic incident, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, revealed that the troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion were on a peace mission to the Okuoma community in Bomadi LGA when they were surrounded and attacked by youths from the community.

News About Nigeria gathered that the attack occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, following a distress call amidst communal tensions between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

According to General Gusau, the reinforcement team led by the commanding officer also came under attack, resulting in the deaths of key military personnel. 

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has swiftly ordered the immediate arrest and investigation of all those involved in the heinous crime.

“The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has directed the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the heinous crime. 

“The occurrence has been reported to the Delta State Government,” Gusau said.

Expressing condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, General Gusau reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country despite the setback.

He assured the public that the military remains resolute in its mandate, even in the face of such grave challenges.

The incident has been reported to the Delta State Government, and efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the attack. 

Gusau said that while a few arrests have already been made, authorities are working to ensure justice is served for the fallen soldiers and their families.
