Road Accident: Six Dead In Ebonyi

Six people have reportedly lost their lives in a road accident that took place at the Onueke axis at the Afikpo-Abakaliki road in Ebonyi State, News About Nigeria reports.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) disclosed this on Sunday, stating that 17 people were involved in the fatal accident.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Igwe Nnabuife, while speaking to newsmen, stated that while six people lost their lives, eleven others sustained various degrees of injuries.

He revealed that the accident involved three vehicles: two articulated vehicles and a commercial bus belonging to Peace Mass Transit, adding that the accident was a multiple crash that was caused by wrong overtaking.

He, however, noted that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while those who were injured are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

“It happened around 11:50 am at Onuwedu, Onueke axis, Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi. This is a multiple crash, and it was caused by wrong overtaking,” he said.

Nnabuife has, however, appealed to drivers to always exercise patience while driving. He cautioned them against disobeying traffic rules and regulations.

He also frowned upon dangerous driving and overspeeding, stating that it was a big threat to life.

The FRSC boss maintained that arriving late at their various destinations was better than being referred to as late; he, therefore, urged drivers to always put the lives of their passengers into consideration when driving, stressing that no one has a spare life somewhere.
