On Sunday night, a newlywed couple were abducted by bandits in Madabanciya village in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State, News About Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed to newsmen by an indigene of the area, identified as Ibrahim Sani.
He stated that the bandits had arrived at the village on foot around 11.45 p.m. on Sunday, leaving their motorcycles outside the village.
The source said that the hoodlums who arrived in their numbers, carrying along with them sophisticated weapons, began shooting sporadically to scare residents of the community upon their arrival.
He noted that the bandits had gone from house to house in search of food items and other valuables and carted away large numbers of animals, food items, and other valuables.
He added that it was in the process of going around the village that they came across the newly married couple and took them away with them to the forest.
He lamented the fact that despite the security challenges the people of the state were facing, no security operatives had been attached to the village to protect the lives and property of the people.
He therefore called on the government to deploy security personnel to the area, maintaining that if something is not done on time, the people will be left with no option but to relocate to other places.
The state government has, however, concluded its arrangements to launch its Community Protection Guards next Wednesday.
As of the time of this report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, could not be reached for comment.
