Lagos Police Arrest Two Suspects In Rival Cult Clash, Recover Firearm

Operatives from the Igando Division of the Lagos State Police Command have successfully arrested two suspects, Hammed Olawale (20) and Japhet Oderinde (23) in a rival cult crash, News About Nigeria reports.

The suspects were arrested in connection with the recent outbreak of violence between two rival cult groups in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest through his official Twitter handle on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the police recovered a locally made semiautomatic pistol along with four live rounds of 9mm ammunition from the suspects.

Officers had received reports of violence between the rival cult factions.

In the course of their response, the police managed to arrest Olawale and Oderinde, both of whom are believed to have played a role in the ongoing clash.

Furthermore, the police disclosed that 26-year-old Abeeb Fagbohun was found with gunshot wounds and was promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention.

He stated, “20-year-old Hammed Olawale and 23-year-old Japhet Oderinde have been arrested by officers from Igando Division after responding to a distress call that two rival cult groups had gone on rampage.

“The two suspects were found in possession of a locally fabricated semiautomatic pistol with four live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“26-year-old Abeeb Fagbohun was found shot and promptly taken to hospital. Efforts in top gear to arrest fleeing suspects.”

The police say it has intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects who managed to flee the scene of the incident.

As investigations continue, the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to curbing the activities of cult groups and maintaining public safety.

Hundeyin stated that the recovered firearm will be subjected to forensic analysis.
