Ondo APC: Aiyedatiwa Lauds Party Members Over Massive Turnout At Primary Election

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has named Mr. Olaide Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, as the new deputy governor of the state, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor transmitted Adelami’s name to the state House of Assembly for approval.

The statement mentioned that the House of Assembly would officially announce the nomination later in the day.

Olaide Adelami, who retired as Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly in April 2018, is a native of Owo, Owo Local Government Area, the same LGA as the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Adelami had contested for the position of governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020 but withdrew his candidature in favour of the late Akeredolu.

In a 2020 interview with Punch, Adelami said that joining politics was not initially part of his plans.

However, his involvement in coordinating Ondo State for the Presidential Support Committee of the APC exposed him to field politics and the needs of the people across the state.

He believed in his capacity to manage the state’s resources effectively.

The announcement followed the governor’s decision to dissolve the State Executive Council and relieve all senior special assistants and special assistants of their duties.

The dissolution, communicated through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Wednesday, directs all members of the cabinet to promptly hand over their duties to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.

Additionally, the announcement extends to the relief of all senior special assistants (SSAs) and special assistants (SAs) of their duties, effective immediately.

The affected officials are instructed to complete a comprehensive handover of all government properties in their possession.

Governor Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the substantive governor of Ondo State on December 27, 2023, following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer in a German hospital.
