LASEMA Reports 1,461 Incidents In Lagos In 2023

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has released its annual report, revealing that the state recorded a total of 1,461 incidents from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023.

News About Nigeria reports that the data highlights the agency’s activities in responding to emergencies, rescuing victims, and reducing disaster risks during the specified period.

According to the statement issued by Mr. Nosa Okunbor, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of LASEMA, December 2023 alone witnessed 138 incidents.

LASEMA, in line with its statutory responsibilities, responded to a total of 6,442 incidents from June 1, 2019, to December 31, 2023.

The breakdown of incidents in December 2023 includes 58 cases involving articulated vehicles such as trucks and trailers.

Specifically, there were 39 truck/tanker accidents and 12 breakdowns of articulated vehicles. Two tankers fell and five got stuck during the period.

Additionally, 29 other vehicles were involved in crashes, while eight medical emergencies were recorded.

The report also noted 11 fire incidents, nine cases of building collapses (comprising two full building collapses, five partial collapses, and the collapse of two bridges), and one incident of oil spillage or leakage.

The ‘other events’ category recorded a total of 19 incidents, which included two bridge repairs, one assault, and various other cases.

Notably, the report stated that there were no recorded explosions, marine incidents, train crashes, or air crashes in December 2023.

LASEMA plays a crucial role in managing emergencies and ensuring the safety of residents in Lagos State.
