Mohbad: Celebrities, Fans Commemorate Late Singer's 28th Birthday

Nigerian celebrities and devoted fans of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, took to social media on Wednesday to celebrate what would have been the artist’s 28th birthday if he were still alive, News About Nigeria reports.

Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Records owned by Naira Marley (Azeez Fashola), passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023.

Months before his death, the artiste had departed Marlian Records to establish his label named ‘Imolenization’.

In the wake of Mohbad’s untimely demise, the Lagos State Police Command initiated an investigative team to unravel the cause of his death.

On September 21, 2023, the police exhumed Mohbad’s body for an autopsy after contentious debates regarding the circumstances of his passing.

A nurse who allegedly injected the deceased singer during treatment before his demise was also arrested.

Despite the passage of time since the autopsy was conducted, the official results are yet to be released.

In October 2023, the then Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, identified prime suspects connected to Mohbad’s death.

He revealed that the singer had vomited and developed goosebumps after being injected three times by a nurse, Feyisayo Ogedemgbe, on September 12, 2023.

In November 2023, the Lagos police stated that they had not received the autopsy report for Mohbad, sparking concerns and appeals from the music community.

Singer Bella Shmurda, on November 18, 2023, implored the police to release Mohbad’s remains, expressing frustration over the prolonged delay.

Bella urged the police to expedite the process and release the body for a dignified funeral arrangement.

The singer also called for the prompt disclosure of the autopsy results.

Responding to inquiries about the release of Mohbad’s autopsy report, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the command had not officially received the report.

Hundeyin said that they would only acknowledge the report when it is officially submitted to them, either through the singer’s family lawyer or independently from the pathologists.
