The Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Isah Andaha, who was kidnapped at Ningo village on Monday, has regained his freedom.
News About Nigeria reported that his release cost the sum of N10 million in ransom.
The chairman, along with his friend Adamu Custom and two other victims who were abducted by unknown gunmen and held along the Akwanga-Andaha road, were released after a payment of 10 million naira was made as a ransom to secure their release.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the victims were released by their abductors around 9 p.m. and left behind at a filling station along Bayan Dutse Road, on the outskirts of Andaha town in the state.
It was also gathered that the victims, after their release, were taken to the residence of Adamu Customs in Andaha and later escorted by security men to the Federal Medical Centre Keffi for medical attention.
The kidnappers were, however, suspected to be Fulani boys who were turning their victims around in the bush.
Recall that the Nasarawa State Police Command, on Tuesday, began an investigation into the abduction of the chairman and other victims, disclosing that the state commissioner of police, Umar Nadada, mobilised personnel to go after the hoodlums and rescue the chairman and one other person who was kidnapped.
DSP Nansel had further disclosed that the command was partnering with other security agencies in the state to carry out a manhunt, adding that they were on the trail of the kidnappers and would ensure that the council chairman and the other victim were rescued.
