The Kano State Hisbah Board has confiscated a truck carrying over 24,000 bottles of beer, News About Nigeria reports.
The Director General of the state Hisbah board, Alhaji Abba Sufi, disclosed this on Wednesday at the board’s headquarters, stating that the truck, which was filled with assorted alcoholic beverages, was confiscated from smugglers along Zaria Road on Tuesday night.
He commended the Hisbah personnel in the state for their efforts in ensuring that the policy of zero-tolerance against the smuggling of beer, alcoholic beverages, and other intoxicating substances into the state through its neighbouring state borders is followed.
According to him, the Hisbah personnel are one group of people who are committed to the vision of ridding the state of alcohol.
Sufi further lauded the staff of the state’s Hisbah for partnering and collaborating with other stakeholders in the state in pushing the crusade and campaign against the smuggling of beer into the state, adding that it is in line with the state’s adoption of the Sharia.
Speaking also, the acting Assistant Commander General of the Intelligent Crimes Dispatch Unit of the board, Fu’ad Dorayi, disclosed that the driver of the truck and two others who were with him had been apprehended, and were in custody.
He expressed his gratitude to the Dawakin Kudu Hisbah Command for its support and urged the people of the state not to hesitate to report any vehicles carrying suspected products along specific routes, including Kano/Zaria Road, Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi Road, Kano-Katsina Road, Kano-Maiduguri Road, and Kano-Hadejia Road.
