Commander General Of Kano Hisbah Resigns

Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, has tendered his resignation, News About Nigeria reports.

The renowned Kano cleric announced his decision via his Facebook page on Friday morning.

In his resignation statement, Sheikh Daurawa said he is frustrated with the challenges encountered in fulfilling his responsibilities, adding that it is difficult to maintain moral standards, particularly among TikTokers and the younger generation.

The announcement coincided with Sheikh Daurawa’s participation in a retreat organised by the Kano State House of Assembly.

The focus of the retreat centred on the development of a law mandating medical check-ups for couples before marriage.

While attending the retreat from Kaduna, Sheikh Daurawa took the opportunity to convey his decision to step down from his position.

In his message, Sheikh Daurawa extended his apologies to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the abrupt nature of his departure.

News About Nigeria reported in February that the Kano State Government denied any involvement in the ongoing legal proceedings against Murja Kunya, a TikToker facing trial for allegedly sharing inappropriate video content.

Kunya, known for her support of the current administration, was arrested and arraigned by Hisbah, the state’s Sharia law enforcement agency, for allegedly recruiting young girls into prostitution.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, the Kano State Government refuted the claims circulating on social media platforms, declaring them untrue and mischievous.

“The state government is quite aware of the constitutional provisions for separation of powers and demarcation of responsibilities between the judiciary, legislature, and executive as the three arms of government and will never do anything or engage in any act that will jeopardise or undermine this noble provision,” stated Dantiye.

He further clarified that the government acknowledges the matter as purely legal, falling within the jurisdiction of the judiciary.
