Aiyedatiwa Directs Suspension Of Caretaker Chairmen In LGA, LCDAs

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has issued a directive for the suspension of caretaker chairmen in the 18 local government areas and 33 local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The order was conveyed in a letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, signed by Alonge Adewale.

According to the letter, the directive is in response to the knowledge that some people, despite the suspension of recently appointed caretaker committee members by a court of competent jurisdiction, continue to operate in their former positions.

The letter instructs the Heads of Local Government Administration in all LGAs/LCDAs to assume responsibility as heads of their respective areas in an acting capacity until the resolution of all legal matters related to the subject.

“Consequently, I have been directed to request the Heads of Local Government Administration in all the LGAs/LCDAs to immediately assume responsibility as head of their respective Local Government Areas/ LCDAs in acting capacity pending the resolution of all legal matters relating to this subject,” the statement read.

The suspended caretaker chairmen are urged to promptly hand over all assets and properties of the LGAs/LCDAs.

The move is seen as part of ongoing efforts to address legal challenges and ensure proper governance structures in the state.

In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has called on politicians in the state to shun every act of governance and focus on presenting a noteworthy contest of ideas in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

During his New Year broadcast, he acknowledged the increased political activities in the state due to the upcoming election and urged all political parties, aspirants, and their followers to adhere to guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), emphasising a zero-tolerance policy for violence.
