Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have reportedly paraded four gunrunners and 34 others for various crimes in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, made this known at the command’s headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Friday, stating that the crimes of the suspects ranged from armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching, and land grabbing, among others.
He disclosed that an intelligence report on the suspected gunrunners had gotten to the Command’s Monitoring Unit on Dec. 19 at 12.30 p.m., adding that the command had swung into action immediately.
He further disclosed that one of the suspected gunrunners was apprehended by his men after his hideout was discovered in Danzaria, Owode, Oyo Town, noting that the suspect, at the time of his arrest, had a Pump Action rifle in his possession.
Osifeso further noted that further investigations into the group led to the arrest of three other members of the criminal gang and various ammunition, including another locally fabricated pump action rifle, one live cartridge, and six empty shells of expended cartridges.
According to him, the suspects, when interrogated, were unable to give satisfactory explanations as to why they had the firearms in their possessions.
Speaking on other suspects who were arrested and paraded on Friday, Osifeso noted that the armed robbery suspects had invaded a restaurant that was located in Bodija, Ibadan, attacked the owner and her customers, and rid them of money and other valuables.
He noted that, upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing the crime.
